Why the output is a transparent PNG

A PNG can preserve an alpha channel: pixels outside the subject can be transparent instead of replaced with a white rectangle. That makes the result useful when placing a product, person, or object over a new color or layout. JPEG does not preserve this transparency, so Pixel Up’s Remove Background tool exports PNG files.

How to create cutouts

1. Open Remove Background and drop in PNG, JPG, WebP, BMP, or TIFF images.
2. Choose an output folder. If your source is inside a synced folder, you can choose a local destination instead.
3. Try Refine edges for difficult boundaries such as hair or fur. Compare the result with the option on and off if the edge looks unnatural.
4. Run the queue and inspect finished cutouts in the Source / Cutout preview.

Strong contrast between the subject and background usually makes separation easier. Fine hair, motion blur, shadows, and a similarly colored background can produce imperfect edges, so check the output before using it in a final design.

Local processing and hardware

The BEN2 model is shipped with Pixel Up; the app does not need to download it when you first remove a background. Compatible GPUs can use DirectML acceleration. If the GPU path fails, Pixel Up can retry on the CPU, which may be slower. Processing time depends on image size and your hardware.

Internet is used to obtain or update the app through Microsoft Store and for optional Pro checkout, activation, and periodic license validation. Your source images are not sent to a cloud image service. See the privacy policy for details.

Processing several files?

Each file receives its own result, so you can review cutouts individually. The Remove Background queue is separate from the Upscale queue; neither tool automatically runs the other. Read the batch workflow guide for selection, retries, and export limits.
